While making the change towards a zero waste lifestyle you will quickly realize how wasteful plastic sponges are, as they are not recyclable or compostable. A good alternative is to use a 100% natural dish washing brush with a replacable head. When the head wears off you can compost it and buy another one, while the handle is perfect to use again.
To further increase lifetime of the product, always let it air dry between uses.
Material: The handle is made of beech from a sustainably managed forest in Germany and metal. The head is made of the same wood and tampico fiber. Tampico fibre is obtained from the leaf ribs of a type of agave which grows on the high plains of Mexico. It has a high degree of shape retention, and is used for scrubbing brushes, washing brushes, and wherever high heat resistance is required.
Size: the wooden head has a diameter of 4 cm, the diameter of the bristle part is ~7cm. The whole brush is 25 cm long.
Replacing the head: Replacing the head is easy. There is a metal strap on the handle below the head, that secures the head on the handle. Pull it back, so it will loosen the grip on the head. Replace the head and pull back the strap.
